Dialysis Access Management
To provide and maintain good blood flow through dialysis access by treating blockages and to allow for a better quality of life.
  • Who needs this service? Patients with kidney failure undergoing dialysis
  • When should the service be done? When a blockage or decreased flow in the dialysis access is suspected.
  • How will this service be performed? The doctor will determine the need on an individual basis. It may include doppler (color ultrasound) evaluation, angiogram (obtaining Xrays of the access after injecting contrast), angioplasty (restoring blood flow with the help of a small balloon), stent placement (a metallic device to keep the access open), or thrombectomy (a technique used to clear the blood clots).
  • My access arm is swelling, Should I make an appointment? Yes, especially if the swelling is affecting needle placement and/ or causing pain.
  • My dialysis needle sites are bleeding longer after treatment. What should I do? Most likely there is a blockage in the dialysis access. Make an appointment with your vascular doctor for evaluation and possible intervention.

Lower Extremity Arterial Disease
To treat blockages in the arteries of legs to resolve leg pain, ulcers, gangrene, etc.
  • Who needs this service? Patients having leg pain, ulcer, gangrene, etc due to decreased blood flow
  • When should the service be done? When the leg pain is limiting the patient's lifestyle or when there are changes of ulcer or gangrene.
  • How will this service be performed? The initial evaluation may include a clinical exam, Doppler ultrasound, or CT/MR/Conventional angiogram. Depending on the nature and extent of the blockages, treatment will be planned. Treatment may include angioplasty (stretching of the arteries in the areas of blockage), atherectomy (a technique to remove plaque build-up), and stent placement (a metallic device to keep the arteries open).

Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)
UFE is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat Fibroid tumors of the uterus, without the necessity to remove the uterus except in very rare circumstances.
  • Who needs this service? Patients suffering from fibroids in the uterus
  • When should the service be done? When the fibroids are causing symptoms such as pain and excessive bleeding.
  • How will this service be performed? UFE is performed by blocking the blood flow to the Uterine Fibroids resulting in their shrinkage using minimally invasive keyhole techniques.

Kyphoplasty/Vertebroplasty
To treat pain due to fractures of the spine caused by soft bones and cancer.
  • Who needs this service? Patients with severe back pain caused by spine fractures from weak bones (osteoporosis) or cancer
  • When should the service be done? This can be done when the patient is ready to treat back pain caused by fractures of the spine.
  • How will this service be performed? Kyphoplasty/Vertebroplasty is performed by restoring the vertebral height by injecting cement into the fractured bone.

Chemotherapy Port Placement / Long Term Central Lines
To receive chemotherapy or other long term IV therapy. It also decreases the number of needle sticks and IV sticks
  • Who needs this service? Persons who have been diagnosed with certain cancers and in need of chemotherapy. Also, patients who need any type of long term IV medication.
  • When should the service be done? Before starting chemotherapy as recommended by the oncologist.
  • How will this service be performed? A plastic button that is implanted under the skin through a small incision.
  • Do I have to go to the hospital for chemo port placement? Not necessarily, Chemo ports can be placed by Dr. C in our outpatient center. Hospital admission is very unlikely after the procedure.
  • Is it possible for my new chemo port to be used on the day of placement? Yes, it can be! Same-day treatment is possible if ordered by an oncologist.

Lower Extremity Venous Insufficiency
To provide relief from pain, heaviness, discoloration, and unsightly bulging veins as a result of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI).
  • Who needs this service? Patients who have leg heaviness, swelling in leg or ankles, pain, itchiness in legs, and ankles. Patients with bulging, twisting varicose veins or skin that looks like leather.
  • When should the service be done? When a patient notices discoloration in legs and ankles, noticing varicose veins increasing in size and leg discomfort. If swelling or ulcers start to appear on the legs.
  • How will this service be performed? The initial evaluation may include clinical examination and color doppler ultrasound evaluation. On the treatment day, the laser ablation procedure involves placing a small laser device into the problem-vein and close the vein using a technique called ablation.
